About UsMy first Belgian was a Rehome - "Archer", purchased from an advert in our local paper, the Courier Mail. He was closely followed by another Rehome Groenendael girl. "Bonnie" was given to us at the inaugural Belgian Shepherd Dog Club of Qld Fun Day at Gatton. This pair of Groenendael bought us into contact with interstate breeders, and our first show dog, "Caddie", arrived from far north Qld through these contacts. Caddie was from Queensland's first ever registered Tervueren litter. Since then, we have been blessed to have had a myriad of lovely Groenendael, Tervueren and Malinois stay with us, live with us, be shown by us, and we have had the joy to breed lovely puppies from some of these wonderful dogs. We enjoy showing, breeding and competitive sheep herding and lure coursing with our dogs. We dabble in several other ANKC sport and obedience disciplines with the dogs from time to time. It was through a puppy sale that I met Roger, who later become my husband. He had immigrated from the UK with his elderly Tervueren girl and was looking for a new puppy, and came to view our dogs at Mirribandi. We take our role as caretakers of this breed very seriously, and spend hours pouring over pedigrees, health testing results, and are thinking and dreaming all things Belgian, 24 hours a day! It is a condition of placement/sale that any dog or puppy from Mirribandi is returned directly to Mirribandi if the owner ever finds themselves in a position of being unable to care for or keep the puppy/dog. We will happily take the puppy/dog back, and find a new home for it. |
Who We Are |
Coming from a farming family, I have a close affinity with land, open spaces and all things rural. It was not by chance that I fell in love with Belgian Shepherds. I find them honest, healthy, good natured dogs, and admire their devotion to their people, and their joy of life.
Our lifestyle, no matter whether in Australia or the UK (from 2022-2025) we are rural at heart, with a desire for perfection in our environment, with our dogs adherence to health and the breed standard, with a love of our dogs, super coffee and great food and friends. We are Mirribandi. |
Our History |
Mirribandi Belgians began in 1991, when we first started to dream of possibly breeding with our initial show dog.
The Belgian Shepherd Dog Club of Queensland was only 6 months old when we joined, and the founders of the club drummed into us the importance of fully health testing all breeding stock, how to read pedigrees, and what constitutes ethical breeding practices. We served many years in nearly every role on the Committee. We left the club in 2021 to persue our own legacy of promotion of the breed. We relocated to the UK in October 2022 for family reasons, taking with us 4 of our Mirribandi girls, leaving others of our winning team in co-ownership and breeders term back in Australia. Mirribandi became officially an International kennel, with a foot in the door of both UK and Australia. Our future chapter takes us back to Australia, expected in 2025. It's a process to prepare the dogs to Australian import requirements..... Onwards and upwards! |
