We are experiencing on going email issues…… We send emails that don’t end up at their destination, and we don’t get a bounce back message for the unsuccessful deliveries. We’ve also had reports of others sending us emails, but they never arrive here, and no bounce back message to say that our server has rejected them.

So, if you send us an email, and do not get a response within 24 hours or so, please phone us – as we may not know you have even emailed. Please be patient with us during this time. We are attempting to have the phone lines here upgraded enough for us to go broadband, at which time we can shop around for a more reliable email server.

Best time to call us about dogs is after hours on 07 5464 2200. If we are not available to take your call, please leave a contact phone number that we can reach you on. Land line numbers are most appreciated, as calls to mobile numbers are not including in our phone plan. Thanks.

Ever had one of those days / weeks / months that are like a living nightmares…. Well this is ours….

· Red collar puppy broke her leg

· Deja bitten by snake & died

· Hahn bitten by black snake and at vets for 2 days – she comes home today, but is not out of the woods yet……

· Solar batteries are not holding their charge – replacement cost quote came in at $12000

· Generator (needed for when solar batteries are out of charge) died

· Washing machine door catch broken – rendering the machine dead

· Rail company advises they are planning to put the planned interstate freight rail line right through our house

· Mother in hospital again with heart / blood pressure problems

· Car tyres worn down to metal – had to be replaced

Did I miss anything????? Things can only improve…

Autopsy revealed that Ch Mirribandi Déjà Vu was bitten by a snake. She passed very quickly – just long enough to head towards her kennel, and lie down as if to sleep. She was not traumatized, and passed peacefully. No evidence was found on site of the snake – and it was not a known nasty snake area (except for small harmless green tree snakes). You can never be too careful, can you…… Meanwhile, her owners are absolutely devastated, and so are we, and all who knew Deja.

Jordan – REVLOCH YESTERDAY (Imp Ireland) arrives at Mirribandi. This Irish lad spent the last 30 nights in quarantine in Sydney, and flew home to Brisbane airport. Jordan has quickly settled into life at Mirribandi, with his best friends being Ice, Mermer and Ryu. Thank you to Paul & Jean for making this possible, and for Craig & Julie for visiting Jordan while in quarantine.

Today is weigh in day for the Belgian Shepherd Dog Club of Qld Slimathon. To raise money for the club, some of us are partaking in a Slimathon. We plan to loose a few kg’s, get a bit fit, and raise some dollars for the club. Please contact me if you would like to sponsor me. I am finding it not so easy to get sponsors at my workplace, as they are all seeking alternate employment in the area since the business informed us that it will be relocating to the other side of Brisbane. We are all feeling a little worried about the financial security for the future……. Wish me luck in the Slimathon, with the fund raising, and with job searching. Donations to the club of a major prize for the winner of Biggest Looser, and Highest Fund Raiser would be most appreciated. Thank you to all who turned up to the Belgian Shepherd Dog club of Qld inaugural Puppy Picnic, held here at Mirribandi. We had a most excellent turn up – with wonderful people, and super behaved dogs. So much so, that a quick count was done of 17 Belgians running off leash at one time without one cross word between them. Across the day, we had families dropping in with their fresh dogs – so it was hard to keep track of exact numbers on the day. (and Belgians never sit still long enough to count them in numbers!!)

We played some games (I was still muscle sore after the sit ups and squats for 2 days….. LOL!), and took some of the dogs to the dam for a swim. Many of us enjoyed the cool of a glass of ice water under the shade of the verandah on this unusually hot spring day.

Thank you for making this day a super enjoyable day. We look forward to next year’s Annual Puppy Picnic – for puppies of all ages. It will be nice to see how much the youngsters at this year’s event have grown. See you next year!

Isla, Ice and Hahn had a herding lesson today. Hahn had been on sheep before and was straight into her work. Isla (Mirribandi Imrhien) knew what to do right away, but moved the sheep with a little less drive than Hahn. And darling sweet Ice, well, she pretended she did not see the sheep straight away, so I walked her over to them “Oh, do you want me to see THESE? “ was the look on her face, and then, with great distance between her and the sheep, she started to gently move them around the yard. She is a very sweet worker – much like Vienna when we started Vienna on sheep.

Now comes the education part – installing stop and direction commands on the pups. They have just turned 6 months old, and each of them is already showing lovely promise at herding after just one lesson.

Ice & Isla’s brother, Imrahn, has worked sheep before, and he will join his two sisters and Hahn for their first trial – entered in the Instinct Test at the trial this coming Sunday.

Our new herding practice sheep arrived safe and sound. They are settling into their new yard, and we will commence working them with our more experienced dogs in a day or two, and start teaching the pups some commands away from the sheep before too much sheep practice with them. Thank you Ann for choosing some lovely sheep suitable for the various levels that my dogs are up to.

While we were away at the NSW Specialty show, our house sitters proudly announced that our cow, Zoe, had given birth to a new baby calf. Sammy found her, and had the privilege of naming her. The baby girl calf is now called MIRRIBANDI MOONLIGHT DREAM. A bit of a regal name for a cross-bred cow, but Moonlight Dream seems to like her new name.

Ch Mirribandi Phoenix Dream CD HIC1 (AI) 17.08.2000 – 30.07.2009

We arrived at Cobbity, NSW, for the Specialty show, when the phone call came through from Mum saying that Phoenix had passed away…… Many tears later, we are still coming to terms with the loss of this great Belgian.

No autopsy was done. The vet said she had hemophiliac anemia, which are auto immune symptoms, of unknown causes. It was about a 2 week turn around from when Phoenix started to throw up, till when the final blood transfusion did not take and she died peacefully while at the vets. There were many suggestions put forward by the vet, with the most likely being rat poison, or a bait. None of the multitude of tests showed the exact reason for the hemophiliac anemia – just that she had it, she died of it, and everything the vet tried to do did not save her.

She came into this world at the vets, and left this world at the vets….

I hope she knew how much we all loved her, as we didn’t get a chance to say our final goodbyes.

Phoenix was our best producer – and her sons did her proud the next day at the Specialty show, with Tzar taking out Best of Breed Groenendael, Best In Show, and Best Open In Show, and Bailey taking Tervueren Dog Challenge, and Best Australian Bred in Show.

Our trip to the NSW Specialty was very bitter sweet. So many tears. Excellent wins in the ring, overshadowed by our sense of grief and loss of a very special and very much loved Belgian.

We miss you Phoenix.

It has been a fabulous year, and a sad year.

The year that Roger & I got married. The year that our Tzar won us TWO Best In Specialty Shows. The birth year of several lovely Mirribandi litters. A year of new friendships. A year of many laughs and good times. Indeed a fabulous year!

And sadly a year that several of our much loved older Belgians passed away, and some that were far too young to leave us. A year of flooding and severe storms, and although we were not really affected directly here at Mirribandi, some of our puppy family were, and we felt their pain.

A year for reflection of where we have been, and what is in front of us…..
