Phoenix - June 2001 - 10 monthsOne single darling Groenendael girl puppy - Ch Mirribandi Phoenix Dream CD (AI) - thank goodness she was the pick of the litter!

Phoenix brings new and exciting bloodlines to Australia, which benefits both our Tervueren and Groenendael breeding programs.

Phoenix's outstanding character and lovely nature are a joy to live with, and a joy to show. She is such a happy girl!

Proving she is not just a pretty face, Phoenix earned her CD (Companion Dog) Obedience title in three straight trials - collecting a 5th placing, a 2nd placing and finally a 1st place and a special trophy for Highest Score for Heel Off Lead. Phoenix was expertly trained and handled to her marvelous obedience wins by Amanda Russell. What a team!!!

Phoenix is semi-retired from the show ring, and is now enjoying playing fetch and “lay at master’s feet” while master is working on computer.  Very serious past times indeed!

We are proud to crown Phoenix is our best brood bitch, with progeny who have gone on to dizzy heights with their Specialty Show achievements and All Breeds Show achievements, as well as obedience and agility achievements.  This has earned Phoenix three BEST DAM IN SHOW awards as at Oct 2007.

We arrived at Cobbity, NSW, for the Specialty show, when the phone call came through from Mum saying that Phoenix had passed away……  Many tears later, we are still coming to terms with the loss of this great Belgian.

No autopsy was done.  The vet said she had hemophiliac anemia, which are auto immune symptoms, of unknown causes.  It was about a 2 week turn around from when Phoenix started to throw up, till when the final blood transfusion did not take and she died peacefully while at the vets.  There were many suggestions put forward by the vet, with the most likely being rat poison, or a bait.  None of the multitude of tests showed the exact reason for the hemophiliac anemia – just that she had it, she died of it, and everything the vet tried to do did not save her.

She came into this world at the vets, and left this world at the vets….

I hope she knew how much we all loved her, as we didn’t get a chance to say our final goodbyes.

Phoenix was our best producer – and her sons did her proud the next day at the Specialty show, with Tzar taking out Best of Breed Groenendael, Best In Show, and Best Open In Show, and Bailey taking Tervueren Dog Challenge, and Best Australian Bred in Show.

Our trip to the NSW Specialty was very bitter sweet.  So many tears.  Excellent wins in the ring, overshadowed by our sense of grief and loss of a very special and very much loved Belgian.

We miss you Phoenix.
