Our breeding
philosophy
Mirribandi
Delaugere
We are not a big establishment. We choose
to limit the number of dogs in our care, so as to give them all the love, pats,
cuddles and attention, that we believe this very special breed thrives on, and
deserves.
Our first few attempts at breeding
did not produce the quality we had hoped for, hence our investment in European
bloodlines. Since this change in direction, judges have been consistently
awarding our dogs in the show rings, and these new bloodlines have proven a
wonderful foundation for our successful breeding program.
We select only the finest
bloodlines to be incorporated into our breeding program, with no expense
spared. We choose to use only the best stud dogs in the country, we have
imported girls, imported stud dogs, and imported frozen semen for artificial
insemination litters. We work in close partnership with several interstate
kennels with similar ethical views and that same burning desire to improve the
breed.
We actively show our dogs, and
have great success in the show rings. Our wins have been at Specialist shows
under International Specialist Judges (where it most counts!) as well as in All
Breeds Open and Championship shows - local, regional and interstate.
We also train our dogs for
obedience, and are actively involved with the local Obedience Club. Our
friendship with Amanda Russell, of Vanrusselhof Kennels, has allowed us to
overcome the dreaded obstacle of Obedience Trial Nerves, and we are now putting
the justly deserved obedience titles on our dogs with Amanda polishing our
initial training, and handling our dogs in trials to their OBEDIENCE TITLES.
Our next goal will be to put
AGILITY and HERDING INSTICT titles onto our dogs - proving that our dogs are
not just show ponies, but are versatile and well rounded members of society,
that still have what it takes to be a Sheep Dog and a Working Dog!
The Mirribandi Team
We are firm believers of
testing ALL our dogs to ensure a clean bill of health BEFORE they are bred from
- we test hips, elbows and eyes. All health results are available for viewing
upon request, or on our Health Register page on-line. Hip, Elbow and Eye issues
are not major problems in our breed, and we plan to do everything that we can
to keep it that way, by only breeding from certified healthy stock.
We will never compromise on
temperament in our breeding program.
We breed for healthy, happy,
true to type Belgians of excellent bloodlines.
Our puppies
are.....
Only bred
from health certified stock - all our breeding girls will always be hip, elbow
and eye certified PRIOR to breeding. We prefer our chosen stud dogs to also be
equally tested, but in some cases, imported stud dogs may only be hip and eye
certified.

Our showing
philosophy
The following piece, by an unknown
author, just about sums up why we show.
WHAT IS A TITLE? - Author unknown.
"Not just a brag, not just a
stepping stone to a higher title, not just an adjunct to competitive scores, a
title is a tribute to the dog that bears it, a way to honor the dog, an
ultimate memorial. It will remain in record and in memory for about as long as
anything in this world can remain. Few humans will do as well or better in that
regard.
"And, though the dog itself doesn't
know or care that its achievements have been noted, a title says many things in
the world of humans, where such things count.
"A title says your dog was
intelligent and adaptable, and good-natured. It says that your dog loved you
enough to do the things that pleased you, however crazy they may have sometimes
seemed. And a title says that you loved your dog, that you loved to spend time
with it because it was a good dog, that you believed in it enough to give it
another chance when it failed, and that in the end, your faith was justified.
"A title proves that your dog
inspired you to that special relationship enjoyed by so few, that in a world of
disposable creatures, this dog with a title was greatly loved, and loved
greatly in return.
"And when that dear, short life is
over, the title remains as a memorial of the finest kind, the best you can give
to a deserving friend, volumes of praise in one small set of initials after the
name.
"A title is nothing less than love
and respect, given and received and permanently recorded."
