Mermer is the very pretty girl from our
first Bailey litter at Mirribandi, and our first Tarsha litter.
Mermer was so named due to the discovery of
her heart murmur when she had her first vaccination at 6 weeks of age. That somewhat explained why she was a little smaller
than the other pups in the litter for her age.
Since then, Mermer has grown to equivalent
size to her litter mates, has bigger coat than her litter mates, and continued
to be more beautiful than her litter mates.
She spent her first year in
Mermer has grown into a very beautiful type
of Belgian. She has settled in well at
home at Mirribandi, and is no longer noise shy and noise reactive at home. She plays all day long with whichever
Belgians are out and about in the house yard with her – favourite toys are
stolen gardening gloves, Nik’s old school shoes, rope toys and the big soccer
ball. She shares her feed bowl with our
younger puppies and is a great teacher of all things good for our pups.
Mermer is a lot like our son Nicholas. Nik has asperges syndrome – a mild kind of
autism. Mermer, like Nik, does not cope
well with change, and takes a while to settle into a new environment. Once settled, Mermer is happy and
content. She is not overly fond of
strangers still, and will stand back and bark, rather than rush in to jump on
them like some of our other dogs. She
can be timid of strangers, but is very affectionate and loving and friendly
towards her family and people that she knows well.
Mermer is an excellent watch dog. She will let you know if a stranger is
approaching. She is not an attack
dog.
Mermer is excellent with young
children. She is a great family member,
and if unsure about visitors, she will do her own thing on the other side of
the yard to the people that she does not know as well as her own family.
Mermer does not appear to have any outward
signs of heart fatigue, and is strong and energetic. She is excellent with cats – does not chase
them. Despite being a quick learner,
Mermer would not make a good obedience dog, as she is wary of strangers, and
this would impact on a good qualifying workout in an obedience trial ring. Mermer is good with other dogs.
2011 – Sadly Mermer passed away, quickly and
without pain. Thank you to all who made
Mermer’s life full and enriched –
