We had high hopes for Asha, he
was was a lovely puppy, so full of promise. Sadly, he injured himself as a puppy, and
this injury did not quite mend as quickly as any of us had hoped for. His owner did not know how Asha injured
himself, and on the few outings Asha had as a youngster he limped around the
show ring. The x-rays taken while he was a puppy didn’t show anything nasty, so
it was then decided he stay at home to let him grow up to see if time
would heal his limp.
Asha went to the chiropractor on several
occasions. He did his follow up
physiotherapy exercises. He was walked
up and down hills slowly as advised by the experts. He went to the naturopath. He had magnetic therapy treatment. He had a couple of anti-inflammatory
injections. He had a course of tablets
to take. He did it all. And still he limped……
By the time Asha was 12 months old, he was
still limping, with minimal improvement.
It was decided that Asha was never going to make it as a show dog, and
he came back to us to find a new home for him.
Asha was de-sexed in preparation for him
finding a pet home – and at the same time as this operation, we had his hips
& elbows x-rayed. Although we had
decided not to breed with him, it was still important to us at Mirribandi to
know whether there was anything suspect with Asha’s hips. A poor score would mean changes to our
breeding plans with his relatives. We
had prepared ourselves for the worst scenario, and were pleasantly surprised
that his hip score came back as 1:1 grade 0, international grade A. His elbows scored a 0:0. Yippee!
An excellent score.
Asha has settled in exceptionally well with
his new family at the Gold Coast. He
lives with Chris & Wendy, their delightful young children, and their sweet
Groenendael girl “Stella”. Asha now
goes for walks along the beach, and Wendy advises that this is just the ticket
for Asha, and she hardly notices him limping now.
We wish Asha a full recovery in time, and we
wish his new family many years of love and adoration from him.
We thank Asha’s first home for all they did
to try to mend Asha, and for their ongoing friendship.
