Mirribandi Belgians

Mirribandi History
My name is
Roger Winton is the man in my life. I met
him through the dogs, and we enjoy showing, raising and training and loving our
Belgian Shepherds. Roger used to show his first Belgian in England before
emigrating to Australia.
Our dogs are our great love. Often the number of dogs
in our yard inadvertently exceeds our own, as we baby-sit many of our puppies
while their families are on holidays. We also have other Belgians that stay from
time to time while we show them for their owners, or as refugees as part of our
ongoing commitment to Belgian Rescue.
What does
Mirribandi mean?
It is one of the many Australian
Aboriginal words meaning "Dog".
How do we
name our dogs? Quite by accident we
began to name our dogs by the alphabet. Not just our litters, but also the dogs
that we have brought to supplement our gene pool and showing team. The
following list started out as an alphabetical listing, and ended up a
chronological history of our kennel. Many of the pedigree names (and pet
names!) are related to the car industry, thanks to the love of classic American
Muscle cars instilled into me by my first husband.
History of
Mirribandi.
I saw my first ever Belgian at the
Brisbane Royal back in 1986. From this day, I learned all I could about this
intriguing breed. Every weekend I read the Dogs, Cats and Pets section of the
newspapers searching for a litter of Groenendaels to appear. It was not until
1990 that I actually acquired my first beloved Belgian.
